Off the top of your head, what are the most memorable parenting moments you have of your two sons? Perhaps it's something that comes to mind due to what has happened today, or something that you think about frequently. Try to capture the moment, image and feeling in writing - perhaps also so that you can one day share a "snapshot" with your son(s).
Oh, about time I answer this question! I can't believe it's been two weeks... Sorry about that. The usual excuses: kids sick with colds, me sick with a cold, and it's been a bit hectic at work. The usual combo for families with small kids.
ReplyDeleteIronically I just noticed that you start your question with "off the top of your head" - I've been stuck with finding an answer for these memorable parenting moments, or more like not finding that answer!
So, wiser and two weeks older, here goes off the top of my head:
There are so many memorable moments that it's been tough trying to narrow down to a couple of examples. I treasure our ordinary moments together that even many of those little things would count as memorable! One such moment was about an hour ago while I was putting my boys to bed. My 2 year old snuggled against me and 5 year old responded to this by coming to give me a bit hug as well and saying "Mommy, I love you!" It was such a genuine and beautiful minute or two, with each of us soaking in the warmth and affection of each others' presence. The words were a gem but the gestures themselves spoke of fondness.
The other memorable moment happened just before the first one. We were reading a bedtime story in our mother-tongue Finnish when my younger son started copying some of the harder words. It was adorable watching and listening to him try his best at pronouncing harder words such as "pusero" (= blouse). His mouth would pucker up and he'd manage "puh"! But he didn't give up and kept on trying. I remember this phase with my older son as well - him recreating whole new words, often getting them right from the start and equally often creating a hilarious new word. For instance, he sometimes still pronounces "hunaja" (= honey) "hujana" or "lusikka" as "lukiska." Tonight this language game began with my little one pronouncing the name of the book wrong: he interpreted "Minttu" (= name of a girl) to "Vinttu." Ah, just adorable and oh so hilarious!
Memories that I think of frequently? Both of my sons really love other younger kids and especially babies and it melts my heart to think back to the countless times they've gone to give them big kisses and careful hugs. I think back to all the snuggles, hugs, and kisses I've gotten. I love how kind they (usually) are to each other. Oh, they are just so cuddly, soft, and gorgeous!
